The i.Dummy project was inspired by the need for a flexible dummy that could accurately represent the diverse range of body sizes and shapes in the fashion industry. Traditional dummies, often available in a single size and shape, failed to adequately represent the physical profiles of various ethnicities. The i.Dummy, however, can change its shape, size, and proportion in three dimensions - lengths, widths, and thicknesses - via a dedicated PC client software, making it truly representative of the people or customers intended to fit.
The realization of the i.Dummy involved a comprehensive study of size charts from various countries and brands, as well as an analysis of scanned body profiles from a diverse female population. The design process also incorporated mechatronics, using mechanics driven by electronic means. The final product, assembled in China, is a robotic mannequin with panels designed for every possible means of bodily change, such as chest, bust, waist, hips, neck, natural waist length, waist to hips length, etc.
The i.Dummy's technical specifications are impressive. Its physical dimensions range from a Size 6 to Size 16 (UK equivalent), with a range of Bust (78 to 100 cm), Waist (63 to 84 cm), Hips (87 to 111 cm), and an increase of the back length (7th Cervical to Waist) of 9 cm range. It can be operated via pre-set sizes or free sizes, allowing for custom dimensions suitable for haute couture or high fashion design.
The i.Dummy project, which took four years of research and development, was unveiled to the media in March 2013. It was exhibited at the Fashion Week, Spring Summer in July 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong. The design has been awarded the Golden A' Product Engineering and Technical Design Award in 2015, a testament to its innovative and trendsetting nature.
The i.Dummy project is a significant advancement in the fashion industry, offering a flexible and customizable solution for garment fitting. Its innovative design and technical prowess are a testament to the creativity and expertise of Dr. Allan Chan and the team at Winswin Ltd. The i.Dummy is not just a product, but a revolution in the fashion industry, setting a new standard for garment fitting and design.
